On the knitting machine, I focus on color and material as a way to convey a larger concept. How can materials translate into a larger conceptual piece that is beyond the dimension of textile but also art? The contrast in materials, textures can be used to create a landscape or patterns that resembles a painting. I experimented with different knits, yarns and gauges to create a conceptual and experimental series of layered knits.

Inspired by the “decay” process in nature, how a bark tree changes color and grows irregular plates, moss and lines. The collection experiments the various stages of decay and finds beauty in the irregular. Utilizing machine knit and manipulated materials, this colorful and graphic body of work exaggerates heavy, tactile surfaces reminiscent of deconstruction.

This project takes an experimental approach to materials and technology, pushing both in the aims to attain an innovative and a very personal and individual style. I intend to work in a multi-disciplinary/mixed media approach, combining materials and technology to create conceptual pieces.
